CIS questions p.78, Question 13

The company our group chose was Dell. It was created by Michael Dell in
1984. Their first global expansion occured just three years after the
company's creation, by creating a subsidiary in the United Kingdom. The
company sells computers and customers can order products through their
website or by phone. They have manufacturing facilities and sales
offices in North America, Europe, Asia and South America. With
outsourcing, the computer company attempts to reduce costs. Instead of
calling it "oursourcing", the company claims that it is simply
"expanding" the company. As far as outsourcing, Dell has call centers
throughout the world. This allows the call centers to stay less busy,
resulting in faster and better customer service. Also, Dell claims that
by spreading out their call centers, they can still function if a
disaster or some other interruption were to occur. In India, Dell plans
to create 5,000 more jobs, contact center, research and development
center, and maybe even a manufacturing site as well. Dell has
discovered problems with language and cultural barriers by spreading
our their call centers all over the world.
